Along with the entire BSA and Triumph range, the 441 Victor of the 1960s was updated for 1971. Now sporting the new oil-in-frame design of the rest of the range the 441cc single was upped to 500cc for the B50. It featured a needle-roller big-end – rather than plain – and a third (drive side) main bearing. Two models were built: a Victor trail model and an ‘SS’ – Street Scrambler – the latter featuring the larger, 8″ front brake. The famous Gold Star name was revived for the excellent handling duo, but with financial troubles looming for the company, the model only lasted two years.

From the ultimate year of manufacture, the matching-numbers 1972 example offered here is in fantastically original condition. Only a two-owner machine, the second for over 20 years, the unrestored bike has been part of a truly discerning, connoisseur BSA and vintage motorcycle collection, meticulously maintained and serviced, always ready to ride. The large, 4-gallon gas tank retains factory-original Hi-Violet paint and an optional full-sized tachometer was ordered when new.

A sympathetic mechanical overhaul was undertaken some years ago, to aid with starting, ease of maintenance and performance of the bike, including the addition of a center stand, Boyer ignition, a spin-on oil filter on the return line, K&N air filter, “Vintage Brake” special compound lining applied to front brake shoes, a deflector tube installed in oil filler to deflect oil being return into the frame- see; http://www.b50.org/techindex.htm; additional hosing added to draw oil from normally unused area under the seat – see; http://www.b50.org/techindex.htm; and a recent new main shaft oil seal.

The believed-original 12,000 mile bike is accompanied by its original “Union” ignition and fork lock keys, factory handbook and aftermarket parts book, a BSA Owners Club Dating certificate, and a clean, clear California title, in non-op status so as not to accrue late fees for California registration.
